Can I Use My Payroll ATM Account After I Resign?

Different banks have different policies for payroll ATM accounts.

When banks detect that a certain payroll ATM account has not been used for many months, they do any of these, based on experiences shared online:
--  They immediately close the account.
--  They convert the account to a regular account, which requires a maintaining balance, and when the balance turns to zero or negative, the account is automatically closed.
--  The account remains active for a time, waiting for the account owner to inquire about the account and convert it to a regular account.

How Is a Payroll ATM Account Different from a Regular ATM Account?

--  Most DO NOT require a maintaining balance, as its maintenance is taken care of by the company's corporate account.
--  Some payroll ATM accounts do not accept over-the-counter cash deposits
-- Most do not accept over-the-counter CHECK deposits
-- Some do not accept foreign remittances
-- If your payroll ATM account was opened in your behalf by your employer, and therefore its maintenance is taken care of by the company's own corporate account, this ATM account is basically not yours. It can be closed anytime when you leave the company.

What's the Best Way to Handle a Payroll ATM Account Upon Resignation or Separation?

You have two options:

-- If you do not have at least 2 valid IDs to open your own bank account, visit your branch of account and ask about converting your payroll ATM account into YOUR OWN regular account.

-- If you have at least 2 valid IDs, withdraw all what's in your payroll ATM account, then open YOUR OWN bank account.

Note: If you have 99 pesos or less left in your ATM, and you can't withdraw it, and you like to get it, use it asap at a supermarket, grocery or drugstore that has a swipe device. There are items worth 99 pesos or less.

Hi ... What if the payroll mistakenly credited my account of more than the amount of my last pay, will they still have a hold of that??
Nora said…
Hi Ebornyl, no, they can no longer get it electronically (unless they have prior agreement with the bank about errors like these), but if it's a big amount, they will surely call you and ask you to return the money. On the other hand, maybe you have tax refunds. You can call them and ask the amount of your last pay (salary, benefits or refunds).

how can i convert may payroll account into a regular account since i was seperated in my company.... i have a card with my name on it
Nora said…
Hi, to be sure, go to the branch where your account was opened with your IDs, and ask how you can convert your payroll account into a regular account and your own personal account. This is to ensure that they will remove any restrictions in your payroll account (like no check deposit, or no over the counter deposit).
Remember that when your account is converted into a regular account, you need to maintain your required minimum balance, otherwise you will be charged or penalized.

Hi! Can I still open a payroll account in the samr bank where I still have unpaid salary loan? ty
Nora said…
Yes, the bank will allow you to open an account. But I think all banks now have included it in their loan terms and conditions the statement that they have the right to take funds from your account to pay your liabilities to the bank.
Usually merong ganito sa Terms and Conditions: "I/we likewise hereby unconditionally authorize this bank to apply, without need of prior notice and/or demand, To the payment of my/our loan obligations pursuant hereto, such amounts of my/our monies in this bank's possession, whether on deposit or otherwise, as may be necessary or sufficient; in any event without prejudice
to this bank's distinct right to demand for any deficiency thereon.

Hi. For now I'm using payroll account and I have still 100php balance. But when I check it in another day my balance will be deducted. I thought that payroll account don't have deductions??
Nora said…
Deductions can be made for withdrawals in another bank's ATM.
Are you separated from your company for several months now? Maybe the bank has detected you're no longer on payroll.
Unknown said…
No, I still working on the same company and about for withrawal.
I still dont withraw yet since the day where the deductions occur. So we might not conclude that it happened because of my withrawal. Besides my next payout will be tomorrow..
I know about the deductions its because I always check it through online banking.

Hi! Can I still use my old payroll account in my new company, instead of opening a new one? It's been 2 months since I resigned from my previous company.

Hi, there is a 300php deduction on my account. do you know what is the maintaining balance for secbank payroll account? I resign last September 2020.Thank you
Nora said…
Hi, is it Security Bank? The maintaining balance for their atm savings account is 5k pesos. It's likely they detected your account no longer receives a pay deposit, so they converted your account into a regular savings account that requires a maintaining balance. If 5k is too big, and if you like, you can withdraw now all your money and open a digital account (no maintaining balance) like Komo of Eastwest or GSave of GCash (partner bank is CIMB)

Hi, when you opened this payroll account, did you go to the bank, fill up forms and got your atm card directly from the bank? Have you tried making a balance inquiry at your bank's ATM to make sure it's active? Does your company use the same bank? If yes, you can use it in your new company. But it's best that visit your bank and inform them about the change to make sure your account is still tagged as "payroll" and won't require a maintaining balance.

Yes it is security bank po. I think I will have to close my account (hopefully it's not too late and free of charge). I'm still unemployed and I don't have enough money to keep my sbank active. Thank you so much for your quick response! GodBless Ms. Nora and be safe po.

Unknown said…
Nora said…
Hi, kelan mo sinubukan yong atm mo? Today?
Nora said…
By the way, ang sagot ko ay based sa experiences ko sa no-maintaining Kaya account and no-maintaining-requirement savings account ko na opened dahil sa pag-time deposit at saka sa mga experiences ng nagco-comment dito sa mga blogs namin. To be sure, maganda pa rin ang magtanong sa BPI.
Unknown said…
Thankyouu

Hi!

I have an old BPI atm which was issued from my previous company. I wasnt able to use it since it was the old card without a chip. It has been one year and I remembered that it has still money in it. I have a balance around 5k. Will that amount be deducted? I couldnt get in touch with the BPI customer service. I hope someone can answer my question. Thanks!

Ganun din ako i have Bdo atm sa dati prev company ko separated nako september last year and yung maternity benefit ko dun papasok. Papasok kaya yun?
Nora said…
If your payroll accounts were accepted via the SSS Disbursement Account Enrollment Module, i-balance inquiry nio uli sa atm kung active pa.
Nora said…
Hi, just go to your BPI branch with your IDs and request for atm card replacement.

Or automatic nilang iconvert un sa savings agad? At kukunin ung pera?
Nora said…
About BPI payroll account: Ikaw ba ang nag-open sa account mo with referral from your employer?

Nora said…
Hi Employee Who Resigned: Yes, you can try over the counter. Bring your IDs and payslip. Tell them it's your final pay.

Remaining balance around 4000 mo
Nora said…
Unknown said…
Nora said…
If yes, oo, active pa ang account mo, kasi wala pa namang 1 month since you resigned. At account mo yan, so mawiwidro mo ang laman nian. After mo mawidro mo yang pera mo, mag-open ka ng regular account mo sa bank na gusto mo, preferable nearer your residence, or open a digital account (GSave with CIMB via GCash, or ING Bank, or Komo by Eastwest, or Tonik, or Diskartech) so you won't worry about maintaining balances.
Unknown said…
Unknown said…
Nag resign napo ako last dec
Unknown said…
Sec bank po
Nora said…
Puede rin yong mga digital accounts, like Komo (Eastwest), ING Bank, CIMB (pede yong GSave ng GCash, in partnership with CIMB), OFBank, -- walang maintaining balance.

Hello. Separated na po ako sa prev company ko and yung ATM card is valid until 2024 pa. Pwede ba ko magpunta ng issuing branch to request for a new ATM card once mag-expire na yung card? Yun kasi ginagamit ko na bank account for my current employer. Thank you.
Unknown said…
Hello po ulit mali pala natanong ko, about po sa sec bank employer ko nga po pala nag deposit non 5k para sa maintaining balance so i guess po hindi ko yung makukuha, thanks po
Nora said…
To owner of ATM with 2024 expiry: Oo, around a month before expiry, puede ka nang magpunta sa bank mo at mag-request ng new card.
Nora said…
To owner of Security Bank account with employer's 5k: I'm glad about your honesty.

Hello! I resigned from my company March of this year. They haven't given me my last pay but are currently processing it. I called Security Bank and told me that it is already restricted since I am no longer connected to the company. Is there a way I can ask Security Bank to get my account unrestricted since my company hasn't given me my last pay?
Nora said…
To owner of restricted Security Bank account: What did they mean by restricted account? It might be good to call your employer and ask how they'll give your last pay, would it be through your Security Bank account or would it be by check? If it's through your account, ask them about what the bank said about your account.
Anonymous said…
My employer said they will deposit my final pay once check is created by finance. They asked my if Payroll Security Bank Account is still active and at that time when they asked, I was still able to withdraw and deposit from that account. Just this weekend, I was not able to deposit to that account. Called Security Bank about it and told me that it is already restricted and the only thing I can do is to withdraw my money.

BDO debit card po. If magresign ko sa company ko, idedeactivate po ba nila yung card and paano po sya iconvert into regular savings account? Thanks po.
Anonymous said…
Hi! I have a BDO payroll account po. It contained at least 7 pesos since the last time I used it. I resigned way back July 2021 pero no changes were made on the payroll account, no deductions whatsoever. Will I still be able to use it for sending money/transactions and will there be any deductions for maintaining balance???

Thank you!

How to check
if your payroll account is still active?
jeff said…

.
Nora said…
And get a TIN no. para makuha mo na ATM card mo.
jeff said…
