DATE OF COVERAGE in SSS is the Date  (Month and Year)  set by SSS as the start of your SSS membership.

It is NOT the date when you got your SSS number.

FOR EMPLOYEES:
If your first contribution to SSS was as Employee,
your Date of Coverage (DOC) is the Month and Year you first worked for your first employer that reported you to the SSS.

FOR SELF-EMPLOYED:
If your first contribution to SSS was as Self-Employed, your DOC is the Month and Year of your first valid contribution to SSS as Self-Employed.

Your first contribution is valid if you registered as Self-Employed using SSS RS-1 Form and this form was approved, stamped and signed by SSS.

FOR OFWs:
If your first contribution to SSS was as OFW, your DOC is the Month and Year of  your first contribution to SSS as OFW.

If you were not Employed, Self-Employed or Non-Working Spouse before becoming an OFW, you should first submit to SSS an accomplished SSS OW-1 Form before making your first contribution as OFW.

FOR NON-WORKING SPOUSE:
If you registered as Non-Working Spouse, your DOC is the Month and Year of your first contribution to SSS as Non-Working Spouse.

FOR VOLUNTARY MEMBERS:
If your FIRST contribution to SSS was as Voluntary, your first contribution is INVALID.
The cashier accepted your payment because she did not know it was your first payment to SSS as Voluntary. SSS cashiers do not check whether you have or do not have previous valid contributions.

You must FIRST register and pay as Employed, or Self-Employed, or OFW, or Non-Working Spouse before becoming Voluntary later on.

FOR EMPLOYERS:
Your Date of Coverage is the date when you started your operation. It is the date when your first employee or first employees started working. In your SSS Employer Registration form, you will write the date of your "Start of Operation". In the same form, after the SSS receives your form, SSS will write your "Date of Coverage."

Remember that you should register with SSS your employees within the first 30 days of their employment. Require your prospective employees or job applicants to have their SSS number during application so you won't encounter problems in case these applicants have problems with their birth  or baptismal certificates.

Is Date of Coverage important?

Yes, Date of Coverage (DOC) is very important.  You WILL NOT be able to get any SSS benefit, even your pension, if you do not have a Date of Coverage.

If you have a Date of Coverage, it means that you registered with SSS correctly and properly and that SSS approved your membership.

How Can I Know if I have a Date of Coverage (DOC)?

Two ways:
- You visit the nearest SSS with your ID and ask your DOC. Many branches ask you to fill up a verification form to present to the SSS officer.
-  or You enroll in SSS Online service so you can see your Date of Coverage.

How to check your Date of Coverage:
Enroll in SSS online service. After your enrollment is processed, login, click Member Info and you'll see your Date of Coverage near your name and date of birth.

Nora said…
No date of coverage: Wala kang date of coverage pero meron kang mga posted contributions? Mag-request ka ng copy ng R1-A form (Employment report form) na kung saan andon yong name mo, then pa-xerox mo ito (get your own copy) and submit it to SSS together with a letter to SSS requesting that they enter your Date of Coverage.
Asikasuhin mo ito asap kasi wala kang pension or other benefits kung wala kang date of coverage.

Nora said…
Hi Lorven: Employed ka ba ngayon? Ask your HR kung naireport ka na sa SSS para ireport ka nila using the correct SSS form. Kung hindi ka pa employed at meron kang source of income, register as Self-employed at SSS. Bring your ID and any proof of your source of income (barangay cert or sales commission receipts). Dapat merong SSS approval yong registration form mo before paying your SSS contribution. Yong mga naunang payments mo as Voluntary ay invalid kaya irefund mo. Write a letter to SSS asking them to refund your invalid voluntary payments. Write amount, receipt no., date of payment and total. Present photocopies of receipts.

Nora said…
Employer's Date of Coverage is the first day of work of the first employee, as reported to the SSS through R-1A. Tanungin mo sa employer mo o hanapin nio
yong R1 nio or first R-1A.
Nora said…
Puede rin namang pumunta sa SSS yong authorized representative nio to ask your employer's date of coverage

Nora said…
Nakaipon ka na sana ng 72 contributions towards your pension and for other benefits like loan. They will pay all your contributions plus penalties. Keep your payslips and photocopy your company ID -- these will be proofs of your employment.

Ma'am good day! Ask ko lang po bakit ganun sinunod ko ung sinabi nyo na ung employer date of coverage eh starting sa first day of work of the first employee, as reported to the SSS through R-1A. Andun din naman po sa papers, pero pag nagta-try ako magregister online as employer "Date of Coverage is not the same with SSS records." ang laging lumalabas.
Unknown said…
Hi Tam: Try mo kayang 01 yong day. Kung nagla-lock after trying some dates, call SSS (try late at night) 920-6446 to 55 or go to SSS and ask. Bring your ID and proof you're the authorized representative of your company.
Tam said…
binaybay ko na po ma'am lahat ng date from jan2014 to jan2017 "Date of Coverage is not the same with SSS records" pa din po ang laging lumalabas. try ko po tawagan this day. due kase ng payment eh this 15th day.
Nora said…
Siguro you also tried yong "Start of Operation" na nasa R1 nio?
Nora said…
Hindi nia masilip?: How can they help employer members if they don't have access to the DOC? If you can't find documents, ask the owner kung kelan sia nag-start ng operation or kung kelan sia nagreport sa SSS, then enter dates until mag-match sa andon sa SSS.
Tam said…

OFW: Ang first payment mo ba sa SSS ay as OFW? Kahuhulog mo pa lang? Kung andito ka pa sa Philippines, go back to SSS at mag-register as OFW. Bring your passport with visa or OFW job contract as proof of your being an OFW. After approval, pay your first contribution as OFW. Continue paying in the next months. You will need your payment receipt transaction number.

Nora said…
self-employed, no date of coverage (DOC): Kung di ka nag-register as self-employed, mag-register ka muna. Yong Personal Record form ng SSS, merong portion doon for self-employed. Bring proof of source of income like receipts or Avon ID, or insurance commission receipt, business permit.
Kung registered ka na, at wala ka pa ring DOC, kagaya pa rin siguro ng dati na you need to wait for around 3 months and pay 3 monthly contributions before you are given a DOC
Nora said…
Subukan mo nga ang Jan 1, 2014... kasi that's the start of the quarter na nag-start of operation mo. Kasi I noticed yong aking DOC ay Jan 1 kahit Feb 14 ako nagsimulang mag-work.
Tam said…
NO IDEA hayzzt. Kakapagod mag pabalik balik at dami pa gastos at abala.

Nora said…
Iba-iba ang processing time for UMID. Puedeng from one month to one year. Ang average siguro is 3 months.
Anonymous said…
Nora said…

Nora said…
Hi hazel, noong nag-submit ka ba ng form, hiningan ka ba ng proof of source of income? as proof na talagang self-employed ka? Or ininterview ka ba tungkol sa source of income mo? Meron ba siyang isinulat na amount of monthly contribution mo sa form mo? Andian ba yong form mo? Kung na-approve ka as self-employed, magkakaroon ka ng date of coverage usually after 3 monthly contributions, based sa mga nababasa ko na comments.
Nora said…
Yes, kung meron kang Date of Coverage. Kung hindi mo makita sa online account mo, you can go to SSS and verify your status kung meron kang Date of Coverage.

Nora said…
If possible, ask them to email you a copy of your R-1A. Halimbawa man hindi mo na makita yong old employer mo, itong start of contributions mo with your agency na ang magiging Date of Coverage mo. Pag meron ka nang posted contributions as a seafarer, enroll on SSS online para ma-track mo ang contributions mo.
Nora said…

Unknown said…
patulong po sa queries ko.. salamat
Jutz said…
Naya said…
Hi Jutz, dapat mag-register ang asawa mo as OFW. Hindi puedeng magsimulang magbayad as Voluntary. Yong 2 monthly payments ire-request mo later on na i-apply na lang sa future payments after maka-register ang husband mo. Padalhan mo siya ng Personal record form. Or puede rin niyang I-download from the SSS website, I-fill-up niya then i-email niya sa SSS together with a scan of his IDs. Or baka merong malapit na SSS branch sa country where he is working para doon siya mag-register
Naya said…
Remember to fill up the space for OFW sa may gitna ng form.
Naya said…
Nagregister ka ba as self-employed? Hindi valid kapag nagsimula kang magbayad as Voluntary. Dapat Employed, or Self-Employed or OFW or Non-working spouse. If you registered properly, ituloy mo lang magbayad. Malamang after 3 to 5 months of paying bago ka mabigyan ng DOC
Unknown said…
Unknown said…
Unknown said…
Nora said…
Sorry at hindi ako naka-reply agad this time.
Good that you have that form already. Next time you pay, for example sa Bayad Center, check OFW. Yong Date of Coverage, ipo-post nila siguro after 3 to 5 payments. Based on many people commenting that they don't have yet their Date of Coverage, hindi agad napo-post ang Date of Coverage -- it takes time. Keep your receipts and his OFW registration form.
Nora said…
Meron kang SSS registration form na signed and stamped by SSS?

you have contributions prior to your date of coverage? Yan ung error s retirement application anu meaning po nyan? paano po maayos?
Nila J said…
My date of Coverage at the start is employed member. It is only in the last two years and one half that I paid as voluntary member. But as I see in my membership status it was change to Voluntary member. And when I requested for an appointment online for retirement application it says" my application is rejected due to premium contributions prior to DOC. What shall I do now?
Nora said…
Hi Nila, don't worry, my relative got the same reply when she applied for retirement benefit online, and when she filed her application at an SSS branch, the issue was never raised. Apparently, many employees have contributions prior to their DOC because many employers in the past reported their employees to SSS only when they became regular employees.
What this means then? You submit your retirement application documents at any branch that you like. Many SSS branches now use the dropbox system. You put all the required documents (xerox copies only) inside a brown envelope, label the envelope with your complete name, the word "Retirement" and your phone number, then put into the dropbox of any SSS branch. Wait for a text from SSS for your next appointment -- bring your original docs.
Unknown said…
Good evening ano po ang gagawin kapag nareject ang retirement claim due to date o coverage?
Nora said…
At ang nakita mong reply is "You have contributions prior to your Date of coverage?". If yes, mag-file ka sa branch. Prepare all the required documents, then xerox them. Put xerox copies in a brown envelope. Write these on the front of the envelope: your complete Name, RETIREMENT, your mobile phone number (dapat celfone no. kasi magtetext sila sa yo later on). Then drop your envelope sa SSS branch drop box. Wait for their text for your interview -- Bring the original copies of your documents.

Hello po pano malalaman DOC ngayon pa lang po magreregister as an employer
Nora said…
About employer's DOC: Yong final DOC, SSS ang magsusulat doon sa lower portion ng Employer Registration form, pero ikaw ang magsusulat ng Start of Operation nio. Ang Start of Operation nio ay yong start of employment ng first employee or first employees mo. Ang pag-register ng employees mo sa SSS ay within the first 30 days of your employee's date of employment.
Anonymous said…
Nora said…
About Date of coverage: Kelangan muna nating malaman ang status mo sa SSS. Gagamitin mo lang yong reference number or transaction number sa last contribution payment receipt mo this 2021. Punta ka lang sa www.sss.gov.ph, i-click ang "I'm not a robot", at i-click ang "Not yet registered in My.SSS" at follow instructions.

Hi! I filed for a Sickness Benefit claim due to COVID but it was rejected due to no date of coverage. I checked my SSS account online and it showed all my SSS contributions since 2016. My first payment was as self-employed but the succeeding were all voluntary (as advised by someone since same lng daw yun). I don’t know what went wrong. And the next available date for the neareast SSS branch is on the 3rd week of Jan 2022 pa.
Nora said…
Hi MJ, before you started paying contributions, did you submit a "Self-employed application form" to SSS? This form is stamped and signed by SSS, with your estimated monthly income and monthly contribution amount on the form. When this form is approved, the date of posting of your first payment will be your date of coverage. If you have this form, xerox it, go to SSS and present original and xerox and ask for your date of coverage to be posted.
If you never submitted a form before you made your first payment, find proofs of your business or source of income during your first year of contributions, and go to SSS (check walk-in or appointment rules of your branch) and request to have a date of coverage.

Good day ma'am. I applied as self employed last December 10,2021 and already paid my first monthly contribution. Nung una po, di po ako makaregister online because it says: you can't register 1.)due to your current membership status 2.)no date of coverage.
And now, after ko po maghulog for another 2months in advance, nakaregister na po ako online. I was planning to apply for umid po sana, but im afraid na di pa matanggap application ko for umid because I'm not sure if I already have Date of Coverage. I checked my online account, and nakalagay parin po duon is prior registrant and no date of coverage pa po (however i can register online despite those errors I encountered like no doc and membership status before).
Does it mean na kelangan ko pa po ba maghintay ng date of coverage and maaprove yung application ko for self employment in order to apply for umid? I applied po last December 10.
Nora said…
Hi James, that's good to know that you've just contributed a few. This means it's easier to correct. Yes, they won't process your UMID if you don't have yet a date of coverage (DOC). That has been their policy. But I don't know if this is still their policy. But I'm sure that you can not claim any benefit if you don't have a date of coverage. Just wait and check from time to time if you already have a DOC.
James said…
Hi ma'am Nora, I just checked my sss account online via my.sss website, but still it doesn't have a date of coverage at prior registrant palang po yung membership ko.. However, when I checked it on the sss mobile app, meron na pong DOC and updated na din yung membership details ko po as self employed.

Should I go to sss branch to apply for my umid?
And also, follow up question lang po, if ever I apply for UMID, can I also request for Umid Certificate at the same time?
Good day, tanong ko lang po pag namatay ang asawa ko sino maging beneficiaries ng SSS ng asawa ko ,kung may sarili din akong SSS?Thank you po.
Nora said…
Hi Me and My Vitiligo Journey: Kahit meron kang sariling SSS, ikaw ang primary beneficiary ng asawa mo, kasama ang mga minors ninyong anak, kung meron. Pedeng magkaroon ng 2 pensions: your retirement pension plus death pension (arising from your husband's SSS).

hello paano po if 1 year mahigit ka na naghuhulog ng contribution mo and nag start ka as employed pero di pala na report ung account mo sa sss. pero terminated ka na ngayon paano po gagawin namin? kasi wala pong DOC din yung sa misis ko need pa naman sana namin for maternity benefits. di kami makaregister din sa sss dahil wala daw DOC
Nora said…
Kahit isa man lang sanang contribution para nagkaroon ka ng DOC, which is very important.
Anonymous said…
Nora said…
Ipakita mo sa SSS ang R3 form at request for validation of date of coverage.
