Hi there, thanks for this article, but I'm still a little bit confused with the computation. My due date is January 2013, so does that make my semester of contingency: October - March 2012? And my one year prior is October -September 2012?

Hello, thanks for appreciating my article. Yes, you understood it perfectly! Happy delivery!

Hello,my due date is late July early August this year but as of December I was advised by my OB to take a full bed rest as I have a high risk pregnancy. I plan to file a leave of absence without pay (no compensation = none payment of sss contribution)until the time I give birth. With this, am I still eligible to claim for the Maternity Benefit?
Nora said…
Hi naomi, yes, you're eligible for SSS maternity benefit, assuming you have contributed at least 3 monthly contributions within the 12-month period Apr 2012 to Mar 2013.
If you're due on July or Aug 2013, your semester of contingency would be Apr to Sep 2013, and the 12-month period within which SSS will check if you have contributed 3 monthly contributions and within which to choose your 6 highest monthly salary credits is Apr 2012 to Mar 2013. I hope you have your MAT1 already stamped by SSS -- this should be done before delivery.

Hi,

Can I still pay for my last year's (2012) contributions if I'm self employed?

Thanks,

Nora said…
Hi fix iphone, sad to say, you can no longer pay 2012 contributions. Deadline is the month after the applicable month or quarter. The exact date of your deadline depends on the last digit of your SSS no.

hi good afternoon. i'm almost 7 mos. pregnant my due date is Sept 2013. and i want to file my maternity loan, but my first contribution (employed) in SSS started in March 2013. My Semester of Contingency is April 2013-Sept 2013, (correct me if i'm wrong) so my 12 month period is April 2012-March 2013. Can i still pay for Jan-Feb 2013 contribution, so that i can have my Maternity loan? Please do reply.
Nora said…
Hi laraflor, sorry but you're already late, and SSS does not accept late payments. Only employers are allowed in certain cases.
Another thing is if you started as a paying SSS member only in March 2013, you cannot pay for Jan and Feb because you were not yet registered in Jan 2013. Puede lang magbayad as Employed if registered by employer, or magbayad as Self-Employed if RS1 form is filed and approved by SSS. Puede lang ang Voluntary after na-Employed or self-employed.

Hi. Good Day! May contribution ako for the month of October 2012 - August 2013. I resigned because im pregnant. My expected date of delivery is May 2014. Do i need to pay more contributions for me to be eligible for the maternity benefit?
Nora said…
Hi Yemmy, you're already eligible; you don't need to pay more contributions. SSS will choose your 6 highest salary credits in 2013 for your benefit contribution computation. The total of these will be divided by 180 -- that would be your benefit per day. Multiply it by 60 (normal) or 78 (CS).

Nora said…
Hi Alyssah, your semester of delivery is Jan to June 2014. Check if you have posted payments for Oct to Dec 2013. If you have, then you're qualified. File your MAT1 asap. But you will only have 3 months (Oct to Dec 2013), instead of 6 months, as basis of the computation of your benefit.
Nora said…
Alyssah, if you get separated, get your cert of separation, cert of non-advancement of benefit, and 2 sheets of L501 form

Hi po ms nors... am I still qualified for the benefit if my contribution is from nov 2012-june2013... my expected delivery date is may 2014
Nora said…
Hi Nuj, yes, you're qualified for the maternity benefit. I hope you've already filed your MAT1. Your semester of delivery is Jan to Jun 2014 and SSS will based your benefit amount on your Jan to June 2013 salary credits.
Hi. I started paying my SSS on November 2013 and my due date is in October 2014 so my semester of contingency is july to dec and the months that I should have contributes would be from July 2013 to June 2014, right? Because I decided to have my maternity leave in September, and the computation that they gave me only covers november 2013-april 2014 payment. is it correct? it should be from july-june ryt? by the way, here's my contribution:
NOV 2013- 686
DEC 2013- 686
jan 2014- 780
feb 2014- 615
march 2014- 780
april 2014-780
may 2014-505
june 2014-835
july 2014- 615
aug 2014- 560
sept 2014- 560

*and they're computation is P 10, 833.33
*my computation however is P 14, 000.00

Please help.. thank you.... :)
Nora said…
Hi PeaceForEveryone, you're correct in your notes.
Your 6 highest contributions and salary credits are:

nov 2013 - 686 - 6,500
dec 2013 - 686 - 6,500
jan 2014 - 780 - 7k
mar 2014 - 780 - 7k
apr 2014 - 780 - 7k
Jun 2014 - 835 - 7,500

total salary credits = 41,500
41,500 / 180 days = 230.55
230.55 x 60 days = 13,833
Your maternity benefit is 13,833
Nora said…
Hi PeaceforEveryone, your date of delivery should be the basis, and not your leave dates. Maybe your employer is just playing safe, thinking you might give birth in Sept, and that they will give you the balance later on, if you give birth in Oct. You can ask them if this is what they're thinking.

Good day can i file for maternity? My EDD is november 2014, it's been a long time that i didn't contribute; almost 9 years.

Pls reply. So I can pay. Thanks

May 4, 2014 at 2:26 AM
Nora said...
Hi marivic, yes, you can pay and be eligible, but what you can get is only half of your benefit, since what you're allowed to pay this May is Apr to June. It would have been better if you have paid Jan to Mar.
Pay as Voluntary. After paying, wait for posting (about 2 to 3 days) then register at sss.gov.ph so you can check your status. Check if you have Date of Coverage.

If I pay april to june 1,040 per month, how much would be my maternity benefit?

Nora
Hi marivic, if 1,045 is more than 2 levels higher than your previous contribution, declare that your monthly income is around 9,500 (lower portion of RS5 form).
If you pay 1,045 every month for that quarter, your benefit will be 9,500.

hi! my last contribution is march 2011, before i worked as ofw. was not able to contribute since then. am i still eligible to claim maternity benefits? my due date is april 2014. is it possible for me to pay for this year so i can file for my maternity claim? thank you.

January 19, 2014 at 7:07 PM
Nora said...
Hi marnie, pay for Oct to Dec 2013 asap, this Jan 2014, so you

can avail. Pay as OFW so they will let you pay. Pay abroad or if you're in the Phils, bring your OEC or OFW ID or overseas job contract. For other member types, the payment deadline has passed, and payment for Oct to Dec 2013 will no longer be accepted.
Then check later if your payments are posted for the months of Oct to Dec 2013. If posted correctly, file your MAT1 asap, before delivery. You would get only half of your benefits because you've paid for only 3 months within the relevant time frame.

By january 2014 i went to sss to change to voluntary so i can continue paying. Am i qualified for the maternity benefit? Will they ask me requirements other than mat1 and mat2? Looking forward to your reply. Thank you!

Hi Divina, yes, you're eligible for maternity benefit. Since

your delivery date is within 6 months of your

separation date, SSS might require you to submit certificate of

separation with separation date, cert of non-advancement of maternity benefit and 2 sheets of L501. See this: SSS maternity benefit documents

Hi kim, you can pay Apr May June 2014 so you can qualify. To get your full benefit, if the last digit of your SSS ID no. is 7 or 8 or 9 or 0, pay also Jan to Mar 2014.
Were you employed before? If not, did you register correctly as self-employed using RS1 form before? Or as OFW using OW1 form? If not sure, verify your member status at SSS.

Hi sam, if your EDD is March 2014, your semester of contingency
is Oct 2013 to Mar 2014, and your 12-month period (basis of 6-
month computation for benefit) is Oct 2012 to Sep 2013. You have the option not to pay until March, and still be eligible for your benefit. Refer to notes above.

Nora said…
Hi Joselito, if your contributions for Jan Feb Mar 2014 are already posted, then you're eligible. Did you file your MAT1 before delivery? If not, attach a letter of explanation to your MAT1 form, and submit together with your MAT2 documents.
How much is your benefit? Add your Jan Feb Mar salary credits. Divide by 180. Multiply by 60 (for normal delivery; 78 if CS). That's your benefit.

Hi Catherine, based on your note that the SSS accepted your MAT1 form, yes, you can avail of your benefit. Do you have at least 3 posted contributions within July 2013 to June 2014? If yes, then you're eligible for benefit.

Hi Catherine, yes, you can avail of maternity benefit. Processing time is about 1 month. Plus about 2 weeks for your registered mail to get to your address. Register at sss.gov.ph so you can track your claim later on. Register after midnight because the website is busy during the day and it's still being improved.

QUESTION from mhai*life 1/27/15
good day. my edd is june 2015. i started work just last nov 2014. 1 year I had no work so I don't have contribution since nov 2013 to oct 2014, but prior to that, I was a member since may 2007. by the time I give birth, I would have paid from nov 2014 to june 2015, so total of 8 months. Am I eligible for maternity benefits? My company did not accept my MAT1 because they said I should have 12 months contributions from the time I give birth. They said I should have 3 months of contributions before I got pregnant and not before I give birth.
ANSWER:
Hi mhai*life, sad to say, what your company told you is correct. They just did not explain the SSS rules properly. They simplified it in their own way.
If you'll give birth in June, your semester of contingency is Jan to June 2015, so SSS will look for at least 3 contributions within Jan 2014 to Dec 2014. You lack 1 month.
If there's a possibility that you'll give birth in July, so you'll qualify, you can register at sss.gov.ph so you can file your MAT1 online. Inform your HR too.
mhai*life said…
I actually worked as a contractual employee for 2 months last June-July 2014 and my contribution was not posted in my sss. I already talked to the company and they said that there lost my sss number that's why they weren't able to pay sss but they will take care of it so that it will be posted in my contribution. So my contribution for 2014 will be:

June 2014
July 2014
Nov 2014
Dec 2014

Will this be enough to qualify for mat benefit since you said that they only need 3 months from Jan-Dec 2014 or does it have to be 3 consecutive months?

Thanks!
Nora said…
Hi mhai*life, yes, if your June and July 2014 will be paid for and will be posted, you will qualify for maternity benefit, even if the months are not consecutive. File your MAT1 before delivery, and make sure your June and July contributions are already posted before you file your MAT2.
Unknown said…
Hi just want to ask if I can still avail my SSS maternity benefit even though I didn't pay my February 2015? My edd will be last week of June 2015 or 1st week of July 2015. Hope you can answer my concern. Thanks and God bless :))
Nora said…
Hi Lucas Kyrie, yes. If you'll give birth in June, you should have paid at least 3 monthly contributions within Jan to Dec 2014. If you'll give birth in July, you should have paid least 3 contributions within Apr 2014 to Mar 2015.

QUESTION from shin shun shu May 16 2015
Hi po. I have sss but have not paid for a long time. This January I paid as Voluntary because I want to claim my maternity benefit. Is it correct that my payment until jun will be considered for computation if I give birth in october 2015?
I paid 495 from jan. to apr. Can I jump into higher contribution if I pay the succeeding months? example po from P495 jump into 1760? pls.enlighten me po. Thank you
ANSWER:
Hi shin shun shu, yes, your payment from Jan to June will be considered for computation. For May, pay 605 and for June, pay 715. If you pay the maximum, pay at SSS and use RS5 so you can fill up the income portion of the form. Be ready to present proof of your increase in income if SSS later on asks you about the big increase in contribution. I don't know if SSS benefit officers always ask for proof, or if they'll just consider whatever you write on RS5.

ANSWER:
Hi Cristy Tan, your semester of contingency will be Oct 2015 to March 2016. SSS will look for at least 3 contributions within the 12 months before your semester of contingency, meaning at least 3 contributions within Oct 2014 to Sept 2015. Hi djanen, if you paid 3 or more contributions within July 2013 to June 2014 as employed or registered self-employed member, you're qualified. Hi.. I'm Jovie.. I assumed to give birth in June 2016.. The 12 months before my semester of contingency are February 2015 to January 2016, right?? I am unemployed now and I only have 1 monthly contribution from February 2015 up to now.. I would like to know if I can still pay my contributions as a Voluntary Member for now up to January 2016.. So, I can be qualified for the Maternity Benefits.. Is that possible?? Thank you so much in advance and God bless! :)

Jovie, about eligibility for maternity benefits:
Hi Jovie, your prior 12-month period is from Jan 2015 to Dec 2015. Yes, pay your contributions asap for Oct to Dec, so you can qualify. You can still pay for July to Sep if the last digit of your SSS no. is 7 or 8 or 9 or 0 (pay at SSS; Bayad Center does not accept payments for previous month or quarter).

My expected date of delivery is January 2016, and I have already filed my maternity notification. What is the basis for the benefit computation -- expected delivery date, or actual delivery date? I'll be 36 weeks along by late December (I gave birth to my first child at 37 weeks).
*My contributions are only April to September 2015.
Nora said…
Hi jhovie, about Philhealth contributions for maternity benefit eligibility: To be eligible in June 2016, pay for the months of April May and June 2016. To be sure, in case you deliver earlier, pay for Jan to March 2016 too.
Nora said…
Hi te, about which date is the basis for SSS maternity benefit computation: The basis is the actual delivery date. If you deliver in Jan 2016, your semester of delivery is Oct 2015 to Mar 2016. SSS will consider April to Sep (6 months) in the computation
If you give birth in Dec 2015, your semester of delivery will be July to Dec 2015. SSS will consider Apr May Jun (3 months only) in the computation.

Hello Ms. Nora, I am just a bit confused i hope you could help me out. Im currently on my 14weeks due first week of august, I am an OFW they said that i can still pay my contribution for oct-dec 2015 till today. My question is if i wont be able to pay today will i be eligible for mat benefits if i start paying this january? Thank you and hoping for your feedback.
Nora said…
About maternity benefit eligibility:
Yes, you will be eligible if you pay only Jan to Mar, but you will get only half of your benefit. Try your best to pay today, so you get your full benefit.
Nora said…
But if you paid at least 3 monthly contributions within Apr 2015 to Sep 2015, you will get your full benefit.
The reasoning behind this is SSS will consider your 6 highest contributions within Apr 2015 to Mar 2016 in computing your maternity benefit.
Unknown said…
My expected delivery will be on July 2016, my last contribution was may 2014, we found out that I'm pregnant by Oct 2015? Am I still under the maternity benefit? Hoping for your answer. Thank you
Nora said…
Hi Bambie, if you'll give birth in July, your semester of contingency is Apr to Sep 2016. SSS will look for 6 contributions within 12 months prior to this semester. So pay for Jan to March asap so you can have half of your benefit. File your MAT1 asap.

Hi Nora ,

I just a few questions for you. My EDD will this July 2016 but there's also a chance that it will be on June 2016 (June 30). My last contribution was March 2015. I tried to check my Maternity Eligibility in SSS online and its says "Maternity Claim application will be rejected due to NO contributions payments for 12 months prior to semester confinement." What should I do ? Should I pay the months of Apr to June as well? And how much can I get? Thank you.
Nora said…
Hi hazel, if you give birth in June, your semester of contingency is Jan to June 2016, and SSS will look for 3 to 6 contributions from Jan to Dec 2015. You said you paid Jan to Mar 2015, so you will qualify and you'll get one-half of your benefit (only 3 contributions got counted).
If you give birth in July, your semester of contingency is Apr to Sep 2016, and SSS will look for 3 to 6 contributions within Apr 2015 to Mar 2016. If you have none, then you're not eligible for the benefit. Sorry but the deadline for paying Jan to Mar 2016 has already passed. Ask others too.
There's a better guide to eligibility here: SSS maternity eligibility

Unknown said…
hi ms.nors. your reply will be greatly appreciated. i have question, i will be giving birth this april 2016 but i was not able to pay my contribution from april 2015 up to now because i resigned from work but prior to that my previous company paid my sss contribution from march 2015 backwards.am i entitled to maternity benefit or not? thanks in advance.
Nora said…
Hi Erikaye, if you paid for Jan Feb and Mar 2015, yes, you're eligible. But you will get only half of what you deserve because instead of the 6 monthly contributions that SSS computes, only 3 months are computed, as you paid only 3 months within 2015. File your MAT1 asap.

Ms.Nora,

Ms. Nora, I've been paying voluntary contribution po starting August 2015 up to now. My expected delivery po kc is march 4,2016 but I had emergency cs po, so on feb.18,2016 I gave birth. I lack 1 month contribution. What should I do so I can avail of maternity benefits?
ANSWER:
Hi Rovie, sad to say that even if you gave birth last March 4, you still lack 1 month, and sorry that you're no longer allowed to pay for any month in 2015. There are payment deadlines.
By the way, did you contribute to SSS as an employee before Aug 2015? Or were you self-employed before? Because if August 2015 was your first time ever to pay SSS and you paid as voluntary, your payments are not valid. If Aug 2015 was your first time ever, comment again, so I can give some advice.

Nag work po ako since August 2005-March 2014. April 2014-July 2015 wala po ako hulog. Nagstart po ako ulit as voluntary member August 2015.

That's great you've worked since 2005. Just sad you weren't able to restart paying earlier. Right now, I can't think of a way. But ask others too.

Gud pm Ms.nora. All of my contributions were remitted when I was employed. last contribution was January 2015. I'm 5 months pregnant. my expected delivery Aug 1 or last week of July. Can I avail of maternity? What should I do? thanks a lot
ANSWER:
Hi mherly, your semester of contingency is Apr to Sep 2016. SSS will look for 3 to 6 contributions within Apr 2015 to March 2016. Pay ASAP Jan to Mar 2016 so you can avail of half of your maternity benefit. Pay on or before March 31. After payment and posting, file your notification. Register to have your online SSS account so you can track your benefit.

Nora said…
mherly, increase in SSS contributions 3/15/16
Thanks a lot po. Do I pay Jan to March as voluntary because I'm no longer employed? How much? If I pay 330 po, 990 for Jan to March, how po is my maternity benefit? Can I pay higher for Jan to March?
ANSWER:
Hi mherly, yes, you pay as Voluntary. Pay at SSS; use the Contributions Payment form. Yes, you can increase your contributions as much as you can. If you pay 330 per month, your benefit will be 3,000; if 440, it will be 4k; if 550, it will be 5k; if 660, it will be 6k, and so on (this is for normal delivery).
Now to be sure, before you go to the SSS cashier, go first to the SSS officer at the counter, and ask if you can increase your contributions to what you want. There's a new circular that says any Voluntary member younger than 55 can increase SSS contributions to any amount, but it's still good to ask the SSS officer.

Adam Kurz, about not being qualified for SSS maternity benefit May 10, 2016
Hi gud pm mrs nora. please help regarding my wife's maternity. She worked january 2014 up to january 2015. Sep was noted on the form which could mean separated. Then when we returned to get mat2 and all the requirements, they told us we could not claim anything because our contributions were not updated. They should have told us we could not get anything when we filed MAT1, or they should have notified us we needed to pay at least 3 months so we could have paid. We didn't know we needed to pay. She gave birth Apr 2016. Can we pay so we can claim the benefit? We planned to use the benefit to pay off the money we borrowed for her CS. We promised to pay using the maternity benefit. We badly need your thoughts about our case. Thanks a lot in advance.
ANSWER:
Very sorry, as that's the policy of SSS. To qualify for the benefit, SSS requires that your wife should have paid at least 3 contributions within Jan to Dec 2015 because she gave birth in Apr 2016. And you'll no longer be allowed to pay for 2015 contributions because there are SSS payment deadlines. The deadlines have passed. The one who stamped your MAT1 form should have checked your wife's records first before stamping it. But if you'll complain now, they will point out the rules written on the MAT1 form that you filed. They'll say read Nos. 1 and 3. Sorry about it. You can ask for financial help from the offices of your local officials. Bring your hospital receipt.

Thank you very much mam nora.. its clear now, what a shame to that employee he didnt give us details clearly.. because in the 1st place they are the one who need to further explain it to the members of sss for us to be knowledgable about the process.

hi! just want to ask, i work feb 2015-august 2015, i am pregnant and i was able to submit mat1 and the sss duly stamped my mat1..i decided to be a voluntary member and was able to pay october and december 2015 only, i was not able to pay month of september and november 2015. i gave birth february 2016. i submitted the mat 2 for maternity reimbursement and gave me the claiming stub to present it upon claiming the check once delivers at home. how ever they were asking to submit the rs-5 from october to dec2015, bit i only have october and december only coz i was not able to pay month of september and november.. am i still eligible?
Nora said…
Hi Jamaica, you gave birth Feb 2016, so SSS will look for at least 3 contributions or 6 highest contributions within Oct 2014 to Sep 2015. Because you had Feb to Aug 2015 payments, you're eligible for the maternity benefit. I don't know why the SSS officer asked you to submit your RS-5 for Oct and Dec 2015. They're not considered in your maternity claim. Do you have an online SSS account? Are your Oct and Dec 2015 already posted? Maybe you mentioned you paid Oct and Dec 2015 and she noticed your Oct and Dec 2015 were not yet posted, so she asked you to submit the receipt.

Yes, really frustrating that there are those who are not mindful of their SOPs, and others who are easily distracted and those who do not really care at all.
Anonymous said…
Hi! thank you for tour quick response😊 i just got this letter earlier today and they are requiring me to request a proper posted payment and a copy of this rs-5.. i dont know where to request that i dont think sm e payment will do that.. i am a voluntary member.. and i have this sss online account but havent chek it yet.. palnning to go to sss san fernando tomorrow morning.. thank you
Nora said…
Hi Jamaica, I suggest you xerox your SM receipt and write a letter (can be handwritten) requesting SSS to post your Oct and Dec 2015 payment. Write amount, applicable months, date of payment, SM receipt no. You cannot submit an RS-5 because you did not pay at SSS. The RS-5 form is only used when we pay at the SSS branch. SM and Bayad Center use their own payment forms.
Anonymous said…
Hi! I'll take note of that.. thanks for your help.. i'm just worried thinking that i will not get any.. ive been waiting for it a month already after submitting mat2..

Hi Miss Nora. My Due date is on Jan 16 2017. Do i still have time or am i already late if i want to voluntarily pay so i can avail sss maternity benefits. Thank you.
Nora said…
Hi Mac: you still have time to avail of one-half of your maternity benefit. Pay for July Aug and Sep 2016 so you can avail. File your notification asap, after your payment is posted.
Have you paid SSS as employed or OFW or self-employed before? Is this your first time ever to pay SSS? If yes, register as self-employed first. This is how to start paying SSS as Self-Employed Member.
Nora said…
Hi jhovie, your salary credit is 6,500.
3 months x 6,500 = 19,500
19,500 / 180 days = 108.33
108.33 x 60 days for Normal Delivery = 6,500
Your maternity benefit is 6,500
Unknown said…
Yes i have paid as employed and self employed before. Right now i am not working. Miss Nora how much is that half matenity benefit you mentioned. And how much total shall i pay to qualify?
Nora said…
Hi Mac: I correct what I earlier told you. It slipped my mind that it's still July 2. You can still pay for April to June this July, but you must pay at SSS, and must be on or before July 10 or before your SSS payment deadline.
The bigger your payment, the bigger your benefit. You can choose any amount. Then later on, pay also for July to Sep on or before Sep 30. Must be on or before Sep 30 because Oct is part of your semester of contingency.
Unknown said…
Thank you Miss Nora. You've always been a great help. I remember the last time I was pregnant you told me na humabol pa ako sa philhealth and I did. Thank you po.

Nora said…
maternity benefit eligibility: Yes, pay for July to Sep (pay asap or BEFORE Oct) so you'll be eligible. Check ASAP if you can still pay for June (depends on the last digit of your SSS no.) so you'll have 4 months computed.
Your semester of contingency is Oct 2016 to Mar 2017, so contributions for this semester is no longer counted. But if there's a possibility you give birth in Apr 2017, it's wise also to pay for Oct to Dec 2016, so you can have 6 months considered in the benefit computation.

miss nora, until when can i reimburse my maternity benefit (self-employed)? i filed my mat 1 before my delivery date, they gave me the receiving copy of the said document. i gave birth last april 15. di po ako makapunta ng SSS dahil nagwowork na ko and hinintay pa namin yung birth certificate ni baby galing LCR

hi po.. just would like to ask, i haven't file a change status in sss yet coz im still waiting for my nso-marriage cert. is it ok to file my maternity notification kahit hindi pa ako nakapagchange status?

thanks po!
Nora said…
Hi Nfaye, yes, you can file your notification under your maiden surname and single status, because it is important that you are able to file your notification BEFORE delivery. Your surname will be covered when you file your Change of Member Data after you get your marriage cert. By the way, what I know is that SSS honors marriage cert issued by the civil registrar as long as it's certified true copy (sealed, stamped and signed). It's Pag-ibig that honors only the NSO cert. But anyway, yes, it's okay to file notification under your single status and then file for your benefit later as married.
Nora said…
Hi Marj you have all the time to wait because the filing time frame is 10 years, pero of course, you file as soon as your docs are complete so your benefit will be processed soon.

Thank you so much!

Zanne said…
Ma'am hope you can reply po. Thanks a lot.
Nora said…
Hi Zanne: your semester of contingency is July to Dec 2016, so dapat meron kang at least 3 contributions sa prior 12 months, within July 2015 to June 2016. You have 2 monthly contributions na within the time frame, kasi sabi mo last payment mo is Aug 2015. Kulang ng isa. What is the last digit of your SSS no.? You can still pay for Aor to June 2016 if your last digit is 3 to 9 or 0. Pay at SSS. Bayad Center will no longer accept. Pay for Apr to June (3 months) so SSS will consider 5 months. Pero meron silang new rule na dapat ang date of payment is not within the semester of contingency, dapat you paid last June, so bale "take the chance" na lang ito, if you like to take the chance, hoping na hindi pa ina-apply o hindi pa alam ng ibang nag-e-evaluate yong new rule.
About your husband's SSS, sorry, hindi puede yong ganon sa maternity benefit. Maternity benefit is only for women members, yong member mismo dapat. God bless din.
Unknown said…
Thank you po ang last dgit po ng sss no. Ko ay six (6) kung babayaran ko po ba ma'am yung 2nd quarter (april-june) at 3rd and 4th quarter qualified po ba ako s April -September n computation thank you po mam nora God bless -mariell-
Nora said…
mariella: Ikaw din yong Zanne? Yong due October? Gusto ko lang liwanagin, mariella, ha. Yong April to June ay kasali sa benefit computation, kaya lang merong bagong rule na inilabas last year na dapat ang date of payment ay hindi sa loob ng semester of contingency. Ibig sabihin sana nabayaran mo ang April to June last June. Your semester of contingency is July to Dec. So itong suggestion ko na you pay for April to June ay "taking the chance" lang.
If you pay July to Sep, hindi ito mabilang for your maternity benefit computation kasi nasa loob ito ng semester of contingency mo (July to Dec).

Hi po ..
I Got confused id i am eligible with maternity benefit.
nakakakita ako ng mga site na ang semester will be 6mos. before the date of deliver.. (example july2016 delivery date.Semester of Contingency will be feb2016-july2016 )
so the 12 months prior to that must be feb 2015- jan. 2016

date of delivery ko po is july 2016
and i started paying sss nov 2016
i hope you can help me.

Thanks in advance..
Nora said…
Hi MC kapag July 2016 ang delivery date mo, ang semester of contingency mo is April to Sep 2016, so SSS will look for at least 3 contributions within April 2015 to March 2016.
Did you mean you started paying Nov 2016? or Nov 2015? Kung meron kang contributions from Nov 2015 to Feb 2016, qualified ka for maternity benefit. If you paid March 2016, SSS will consider Nov to Mar (4 months) in its computation.

can someone help me po to explain?

I have my first delivery last december 16 2013 and SSS via my company paid my maternity benefit without problem
last february 18, 2016 i had miscarriage and again SSS via my compay paid my maternity benefit without problem (i sent D&C reports etc..)
now i am 8/9weeks pregnant and my next due is March 19, 2016. our company applied online again my SSS Maternity benefit but the system error says:
- EXPECTED DATE OF DELIVERY and DATE of LAST Delivery interval should be at least 6 months" and can't continue the maternity notification.

does this means I am NOT ABLE to CLAIM MATERNITY BENEFITS?
MC said…
hi? wat do you mean your due will be march 19 2016? i think it should be 2017?

and you mentioned that u have miscarriage feb of 2016.. maybe that is the reason why the system says your delivery must be 6 mos. interval .

Hi MC: Thank you very much for taking the time to help reply to the questions. I appreciate it very much. Have another nice day! Hope you continue to help :)

Thank you sir/mam MC;

2017 rather...
so does means i will not able to claim again for my 2017 delivery?
Nora said…
Hi Anne: if your due is March 2017, you should be eligible for your 3rd maternity benefit. Ask your HR to file again your maternity benefit notification, and make sure that they enter March 2017 as your due date (not March 2016).
Your first notification most likely was rejected because they entered a wrong year (2016). Notice that Feb 2016 and March 2016 are just days apart while Feb 2016 and March 2017 are 12 months apart (which is surely compliant with their 6-month gap rule).
Unknown said…
Hi Ms Nora,

I have access the online of our company's SSS and I am the one who are filing maternity benefit of other employees including myself... I encoded right (March 19, 2017) and Date of Last Delivery/Miscarriage = February 18, 2016. and the problem error says

"EXPECTED DATE of DELIVERY and DATE of LAST DELIVERY INTERVAL SHOULD BE AT LEAST 6 MONTHS"

and the application cant push tru... :(

October 02 ang due date nya..would it be possible na maclaim nya yung maternity loan nya?
Thank you
Nora said…
Hi vincent: Ang semester of contingency niya is July to Dec 2016. The 12 months before this semester is the one that SSS will consider. Kung meron siyang at least 3 contributions within July 2015 to June 2016, qualified siya for maternity benefit. Benefit ito, hindi loan. Nag-file na ba siya ng maternity notification? Puedeng online notification kung enrolled siya online with SSS.
Nora said…
Hi Anne: Have I've answered this in another post? There could be a glitch in the notification system, so consider filing your notification at the branch using the maternity notification form for employed members.

Aileen Baldoz: Yes, maiiba ang semester of contingency mo kasi naiba yong quarter ng delivery mo.
Pag Dec 2016 ka manganak, dapat meron kang at least 3 contributions within July 2015 to June 2016. Pag Jan 2017 ka manganak, dapat meron kang at least 3 contributions within Oct 2015 to Sep 2016

Nora said…
Hi ladymics: Kung nakapag-remit ang employer mo for you for June, Jul, Aug, Sep, four monthly contributions ang ma-consider for your benefit (about 2/3 of your benefit). Pag Jul to Sep lang, yes, tama ka, about half of your benefit lang ang makuha mo.
Sinabi kong "about" kasi depende rin sa kung the same contribution amount ka per month or different amounts.

Hi Amy: Yes, puede ka pang humabol pero one-half of your benefit na lang kasi ang puede mo na lang bayaran is Jan Feb March 2017. Pay this quarter ASAP. Expected month of delivery ko po kase is this coming April,2017. (Correct me if i'm wrong po) Jan-Jun,2017 po yung semester of contingency ko. Sabi nyo po need lang ng atleast 3months of contribution within 12months before po ng semester of contingency to be eligible to claim maternity benefit kahit po hindi nakapaghulog ng contribution up to present time. So ang 12months po ng sakin is from Jan-Dec 2016 po? Ito po list of contribution ko by those months po para lang po mas clear. Employed po ako that time.
Mon yr cont. MSC
Jan 2016 - 1,100 10,000

Hi Christia: Pay asap this month for the whole first quarter (Jan Feb March), so you can be eligible. Kaya lang one half of your benefit na lang ang makukuha mo kasi 3 months lang ang maco-compute (itong Jan to March lang). Pay the maximum contributions: 1760 x 3, so your benefit will be higher.

Hi Lyca: Oo, tama ka, puede pang bayaran ang month of March or the whole Jan to March quarter on or before Apr 25, pero magbayad sa SSS branch na, hindi na tatanggapin sa Bayad Center or ibang collectors.
Nora said…
By the way, Lyca, employed ka ba before? When you made your first payment ever to SSS? Meron ka bang Date of Coverage? I asked to make sure na magiging valid ang payments mo.

Hi po. Sorry but I still done get it po.please help My edd is July 2017. Nagstart ako magwork january 2015 until january 2016. Nagresign po ako then nagkawork ulit ako from march 2016 to July 2016. I check my sss contributions and posted naman po lahat. I paid my 1,760 monthly contribution from feb 2017-April 2017. Itatanong ko lang po do I still need to pay more or okay na po yung contributions ko and im eligible for maternity benefits? Thanks in advance!
Nora said…
Hi Jed: Yes, you are eligible. No, you do not need to pay additional contributions to be eligible. Ang semester of contingency mo is Apr to Sep 2017. So SSS will look for your 6 highest contributions within Apr 2016 to Mar 2017. Yong Feb and Mar 2017 contributions mo na 1,760 makakasali yon sa computation. Ano pa yong 4 na highest contributions mo within Apr 2016 to Mar 2017? Yang 6 highest contributions (6 highest salary credits) ang mako-consider.

Hi Ms. Nora!

Would just like to ask, I was employed oct 2010-sept 2015 and had sss contribution. But when I resigned up to now I was not able to continue my contribution. I am pregnant now and due on April 22, 2018. Am I still eligible for maternity benefit if I’m going to pay now? Also Ma’am, I know I was able to make some loan before and made payment for a year. Does my contribution for 5 years already cover my loan? Thanks a lot Ma’am. Hoping for your sooneat reply.

Hi gudpm miss nora. Started working for my company this year jan 2017. Started paying sss contributions by jan 2017 also. Delivered my first baby sept 10, 2017. So i belong in semester april 2016- march 2017... My company tells me im not eligible for maternity claim because they could not compute my benefit because i started working for them january of 2017. So the 6month highest monthly salary credit within the 12months could not be computed. Can u help me? Thank you.

Hi there!
This is Jane and I have read your comment, just want to help you because I've been hired and gave birth same month as you are but last 2014. I wonder why your company is claiming that your not eligible for maternity benefit of SSS, that on my case my company they did though it is bit lower than those who completed the 12 months contribution prior to due date, as I remember I received 25k from our company. Maybe your company has issue with SSS or not yet remitted your contribution. You can check your contribution online to verify and you can also check if you are eligible or not for the Maternity benefit.
Hope this help.
Have a nice day!

Hi, ms. Nora, this is Abhie, ask ko lng po I will still qualify to avail MAT even if I already gave birth last feb. Can I still pay for the 12 months required contributions.. I am a self-employed member.. Thank you in advance, your answer will be a big help.

Ask ko lang po if pwede pa ako ma qualify if due date ko is november. Wala akong hulog last year for the whole year. Nag start ulit ako mag bayad April-may-june this year. Thank you!

Hi. Good Day! May contribution po ako for the month of September 2017 - February 2018. I resigned because I'm pregnant. My expected date of delivery is November 2018. Do I need to pay more contributions for me to be eligible for the maternity benefit?
Nora said…
Hi Aileen, sorry for the late reply. Yes, you are already eligible for the SSS maternity benefit. I hope you have already filed your SSS notification. Yes, you don't need to pay more contributions to be eligible. But it's good to continue contributing to SSS whenever you can.
Unknown said…
Good morning..Im an old member of SSS.. but I seperated already to my employer.. I started paying in sss as volunteer.. Then i stopped paying due of financial matters.. Now I am pregnant. My expected delivery date is on May 2020... I started to pay my contributions last july 2019.. It will cover the 6 highest contributionS.. But sadly, I had miscarriage this november 2019..
So meaning, I'm not entitled to any maternity benefits..

Another thing, I read an article im facebook group that I can still claim a maternity benefit even our child is already 6 or 10 (as maximum) year old. Is this true? If it's true, what are the guidelines of sss in this matter?

Thank you so much 😊

Hi Good day po. My expected delivery is on Feb 2020. May contribution na po ako sa sss from June 2015- Sept 2019 . Nagresign ako sa private comp last sept 2019 and worked as a public teacher the ff months. Binigyan dn nmn nila ako ng cert of non advancement. Naghulog ako sa sss for the month of oct pero nakalimutan kong magbayad for the mo of Nov-pagcheck ko may ibang naghulog na corporation sa november na hindi ko kilala. Will it affect my status sa pagfile ng MAT 2? And lastly po, dapat pa ba akong magfile ng certificate of denial? Luckily na change na po status ko to voluntary after i paid my sss for Dec 2019-Jan 2020 .

Thank you so much and more power 😊
Nora said…
Hi, dahil meron ka namang at least 3 monthly contributions within the 12-month period up to Sep 2019, eligible ka for SSS maternity benefit. Yes, magagamit mo yong cert of non advancement. I'm assuming meron ka nang MAT1 (notification) stamped by SSS, or naka-notify ka na online. Ang alam ko hindi naman maka-affect, kasi Voluntary ka naman na, at meron ka namang cert of non-advancement, at yong period from Oct 2018 to Sep 2019 ang iko-consider to check if you are eligible. That's the 12-month period prior to semester of delivery.
Nora said…
Pero if you have time, you can visit SSS to ask about the premium paid in November, or you can ask sa SSS page sa FB during office hours.

But 1st time ko p pong kumuha ng maternity benifits
Nora said…
Hi Mom, yes, qualified ka, unlimited na under the Expanded Maternity Leave Law. Basta lang meron kang at least 3 monthly contributions within the past 12 months prior to your semester of delivery. Ito yong relevant part of the law:
Section 4. Frequency of the Grant. -- Maternity Leave shall be granted to a qualified female worker in every instance of pregnancy, miscarriage or emergency termination of pregnancy regardless of frequency.

Hi Mam, medyo naguguluhan pa ko sa semester of contingency . I'am about to give birth po this July 2020. Complete po ang hulog ko since 2017 up to this date. Thanks
Nora said…
Hi Mom, ang semester of contingency mo is April to Sep 2020. It means na dapat meron kang at least 3 contributions within April 2019 to Mar 2020 (yong 12 months prior to semester of contingency). Ang i-co-compute mo is hanapin mo yong 6 highest monthly contributions within April 2019 to Mar 2020. Then tingnan mo yong equivalent salary credits. Yong 6 highest salary credits ang ito-total mo, then divide by 180. Yan ang daily salary credit. Times 105 days.

Hi mam good day..

My tanong po ako.
I gave birth last dec 2019
I was employed since 2014 up to april of 2019.. If tama po un pag kakaintindi ko un pag kukuhanan po ng bracket is july 2018 - june of 2019?? For matben?

Thank you po mam
Nora said…
Hi Mhelamhela, ang semester of contingency mo is July to Dec 2019, so tama ka na sa July 2018 to June 2019 titingnan yong contributions mo. Yes, eligible ka kasi meron kang at least 3 monthly contributions. Meron ka ngang 9 months within the qualified 12-month-period. Titingnan doon yong 6 highest contributions/salary credits.

Hello mam, ask ko lang po about payment this month of April to june 2020 ang nkalagay po kase na due date is August 3 mapapasama dn po ba siya sa computation of matben. October po edd ko.Sept 2019 and October 2019 lang ang contri ko the year of 2019 tas.Hindi po ba siya late of payment kase this august 3 po ang nkalagay n due date
Esther said…
Thank you po.
Nora said…
Hi Esther, dati ka nang paying member years or months before March 2020? I asked kasi hindi allowed ang nagsisimulang magbayad as Voluntary member. Yong payment mo for March ay accepted din kasi na-extend ang payment deadlines for the first quarter to June 30 due to the pandemic. So lahat ng 4 payments mo ay considered for your claim.
Nora said…
Sabi mo "payment this month", ibig sabihin ba ay binayaran mo in July ang April to June? If yes, hindi ko sure kung iko-consider nila for your maternity claim, kasi meron silang circular na dapat ang mga payments ay wala sa loob ng semester of delivery. Ang semester of delivery mo is July to Dec.

Jhen VALENZUELA said…
Nora said…
Hi Jhen, tama yong covered dates mo. 6 months ang kelangan to get the full benefit.
Nora said…
Hi Jhen, nag-google ako at wala na akong makita na nag-extend ang SSS ng payment deadline for the month of June. At saka kahit tanggapin ang June contribution mo last July or this August, hindi na siya masasali sa counting kasi meron silang rule na dapat ang payment ay BEFORE semester of contingency. Ang July and August ay kasali na sa semester of contingency mo.
2 months lang ba talaga ang nabayaran mo within July 2019 to June 2020?
Jhen VALENZUELA said…
Nora said…
Jhen, oo nga sayang na hindi nakapagbayad on time. Malaking tulong din sana. Sorry wala akong alam na paraan, kasi dapat nabayaran ang June contribution noong June or earlier. SSS rule kasi yong deadlines.
jaja said…
hello po, since 2010 pa po akong nagbabayad ng sss pero last 2019 po bale jan-may lang po nabayaran tas jan-march 2020 bayad narin, last aug 10 nanganak po ako, eligible ba ako to claim maternity benefit po?
Nora said…
Hi jaja, binayaran mo ba yong Jan to March within Jan to March? if yes, oo puede kang mag-claim.
Nora said…
By the way, your benefit will just be one-half because you have only 3 months for computation. SSS considers 6 monthly salary credits.
jaja said…
Nora said…
Ah yes nga pala, kasama ang April and May 2019 sa computation. Sa May ka na pala nakapagbayad for Jan to March dahil sa pandemic. Meron kasi silang rule about paying within the semester of contingency (Apr to Sep), pero sana naman iconsider nila yong pandemic at okay lang sa kanila na May mo na nabayaran.
Unknown said…
hello po, if working ako from Nov 2017 to Aug 2019 and my EDD will be on April 2021 so my sem of contingency will be Jan-June 2021 right? So 12 months prior to that is Jan-Dec 2019??? Pls. enlighten me
Nora said…
Hello, tama ang semester of contingency. Ang 12 months prior is Jan to Dec 2020, hindi 2019. So dapat magbayad ka ng contributions mo for October to Dec ngayong year para makakuha ka ng benefit. Dapat mabayaran mo this Nov or Dec 2020.
Unknown said…
so if maximum na 2400 yung icocontribute ko. I'll receive 70000 as maternity benefit?
Nora said…

Yes, 70k, basta tanggapin ang payment mo for July Aug Sep at mai-post as payment for July Aug Sep at mabayaran mo this Nov or Dec ang para sa Oct Nov Dec. Kung Oct Nov Dec lang ang tanggapin at maipost (pede pa ring bayaran this Nov or Dec), 35k ang benefit mo.
Unknown said…
They accepted my pmt for Jul to Dec and it's already posted. Thank you for the help. So after this pmt can I pay minimum contribution next yr?
Nora said…
That's great they accepted and posted as payments for July to Dec. Yes, puede na uli minimum as voluntary. You can change your contribution amounts anytime as voluntary basta before age 55. At age 55 and after, once a year na lang ang change at one level up per year na lang ang allowed.

Hi Mam Nora,
Ben. ko. may expected date of delivery is December 30,2018 peo napaaga po panganganak ko which is November 17, 2018 employed po ako from June 2013-may 22,2018 and then nag voluntary po ako from July - Dec 2018. Now my question is am I qualify for maternity benefits mam hoping for your prompt repl for my concern mam Thank you very much happy new year mam godbless po😘
Nora said…
Hi, based sa date of payments mo, qualified ka for maternity benefit.
Kelangang kumuha ka ng certification of separation from employment at certification of non-advancement of maternity benefit at L-501 form, kasi within 6 months yong delivery date mo sa last day of employment mo.
